Introducing the first children’s book researched and written by Lela Rast Hartsaw, blogger at

This book chronicles the adventures of a porcelain doll who is lost during a hurricane on the Gamble Plantation, situated on the Manatee River in SW Florida near the Gulf of Mexico. In her own words, she tells about life in 19th century Florida. She hears stories of the American Civil War, witnesses visits from Federal troops, overhears tales of ghosts & Indians from local children, and even experiences the excitement of a real-life fugitive on the run!

Most of the proceeds from the sale of this book will go to the preservation of the Patten House, built in 1895 on the Gamble property and in dire need of restoration.
