What has Mama been writing?

Welcome to whatsmamawriting.com… The answer to that question is Mama has been writing and publishing books!

What started with a book to share local history and raise awareness for the need for historic preservation, has produced a second book on the same topic, an Easy Reader Picture Book, dedicated to younger readers. Followed by a four-generation book project (and its sequel). As editor and designer, a book of short stories by Lela’s grandmother’s sister, Elizabeth Gates, titled Hearth & Home. And most recently, a literal labor of love: Hearts Are Everywhere—A 52-week Devotional Journal featuring a photo collection of HEARTS found, well, everywhere!

Readers can find all of these books on Amazon.

HOW IT STARTED:

The Adventures of Abigail Rose—Ida Patten’s Antebellum Doll and Abigail Rose Visits The Gamble Plantation have both been released and are fulfilling their purpose of bringing history to life for readers young and old and raise awareness of the Patten House and its restoration project.

This first book is currently available at several local museums: The Gamble Plantation Historic Site (a Florida State Park and the location of the story), Bishop Museum of Science and Nature (formerly The South Florida Museum), Manatee County Agriculture Museum at the Palmetto Historical Park, Manatee Village Historical Park, and DeSoto National Memorial Park. The book is also available in the gift shops at two Battle of Franklin Trust sites in Franklin, Tennessee – Carnton and the Carter House.

You can also find the books on Amazon by clicking here. Or visit the Bookstore on this website (see tabs above) or other online sites like Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million.

WHAT’S NEXT:

Several projects are on the back burner, including the biography of Dr. W.D. Sugg (visit his page at sugglegacy.wordpress.com or Facebook.com/wdsugg) who was instrumental in establishing many landmarks in Manatee County Florida as well as his hometown of Franklin, Tennessee. My daughter has several stories she would like to possibly publish and we have discussed a collaboration, which could prove interesting.

STAY TUNED.

Thank you for visiting,

~ Lela
